Chien Nguyen


Kia ora koutou!

Hello everyone. Today, I want to introduce a little bit about myself. My name is Chien, my full name is Minh Chien Nguyen. I come from Vietnam. I will get 24 years old in December. Now, I am living in Great King Street with a wonderful priest named Mark.

Honestly, I just arrived in New Zealand a week ago. Therefore, there are many interesting and strange things for me when coming to this beautiful country. One of my most impressive things is the weather. If you access the Internet or watch the weather forecast, you can know that now is Summer in Vietnam and it is approximately 40 degrees Celsius (toooooo hot). Therefore, it is freezing cold for me in this new country. Besides, I really love the beauty of nature with many majestic mountains and hills such as Mount Cook.

One of my favorite subjects at University was Phonetics and Phonology because I gained much knowledge on the IPA (The International Phonetic Alphabet) and how to pronounce correctly each English word. So, it is the reason why I have had good pronunciation.

In my leisure time, I am really into listening to music to release my tension after a long day of studying. Furthermore, I am an avid reader because I can broaden my horizons through reading books. However, I do not like watching movies in the cinema since it is a waste of time.

In terms of my advantages, initially, I am a sociable and active person; therefore, I can make new friends and start a conversation with others quickly. What’s more, I am able to adapt to new environments rapidly and flexibly. By contrast, there are several weaknesses in my English speaking skills such as my awful grammar and vocabulary.

During this course, hopefully, I can enhance my skills in English and get 6.5 on the IELTS examination as soon as possible. To do that, I really need your support and accompany. Thank you so much!

    Hi Chien, so nice to read your introduction! I find it fascinating that you studied phonology. I did too ... quite some time ago, though. Using the ipa symbols is useful indeed in clarifying how words are pronounced.
    Like you, I also enjoy reading. In fact, sometimes I walk to the ELC with a book at the open.

    I came here in summer, i experienced three different season here, I don't like the winter here as well. hopefully the winter will not last longer, and spring will coming soon. you can enjoy the sunshine and the beach. wow....

    Hi! I was surprised that in Vietnam it is 40 degrees Celsius in summer😯 I feel it is cold in Dunedin too.

I think that volunteering can enrich peoples live in different ways.   I think the world in 10 years time will have more AI and more professions that can work in place of humans.I expect that systems such as facial recognition will become more advanced, and people will be able to shop using facial recognition without wallets.  However, as this facial recognition system develops, there are problems of who will manage it and whether privacy will be properly protected.On the positive side, it makes it easier to prevent crime and find missing persons. Additionally, as I mentioned earlier, lives will be made more convenient.Therefore, it is impossible for me to say whether it will get better or worse.

 I believe the world will improve more and more because of the development of technology, whereas the environment will be getting worth. I think AI will improve more and more. For example, Al will be able to express their emotion in next revolution. I think the world will be better for human, but other animals and plants will receive a bad influence from next revolution. we have to keep my mind that our action effect on the environment.
