Is it gettin better? -Recent Poverty Issues- Chia Miyahara
These days, many people focus on serious
poverty problem. Generally, poverty people mean people who live by using under
$1.9 per day. Now 736 million people is suffered from this problem, which mean
1 out of 10 people in the world. In addition, 146 countries are regarded as
poverty country and these countries account for 74% overall. If the situation
gets worse, a lot of problem will happen, such as decreasing the number of works,
dropping the quality of education, and getting worse environment.
Firstly, I would like to introduse this map . This map illustrates Where people live and How poor they are. As you can see from this map, there are any poor people in Europe and Central Asia. On the other hand, the African continent, especially from halfway down, faces serious poverty problems.
Next, I would like
to explain poverty situation in Africa in the 1990s and 2000s, by using this graph.
From this graph, we can understand there was a good tendency in Africa except
foe only South Africa. In Almost all of country, the number of poverty people
decreased, especially there was a quite decrease in Malj(about 40%).
Finally, as you can see from next graph, the situation is getting better now on the whole country. Third graph indicates percentage of people who faced with poverty problem in seven regions between 1981 to 2011. Especially, the beginning of graph, in 1981, 95% people in East Asis and Pacific were poverty, but the number of people significantly declined in two decades. The number of people in South Asia went down from just under 90 % to 60%. Conversely, there was a stable tendency in Sub-Saharan Africa. The number of people lived in Middle East (30%) and Latin America (24%) decreased to only 10%. Moreover, in 1981, although the number of people in Europe and Central Asia was just over 10%, this figure became under 5% in 2011.
Overall, there is a tendency
to decrease the number of people who suffered from poverty respectively.
However, this problem is still controversial problem, so we must take measures
as soon as possible.
Now, I finally got the true meaning of "poverty" is people who live by using under $1.9 per day. I got that I am also poor. "))
ReplyDeleteI am really surprised at 736 million people is suffered from poverty
ReplyDeleteI thought that if poverty is improving even a little, we should keep moving to solve it.
ReplyDeleteMany African people is still poverty, so we have to contribute to solve this problem even if this situation is getting better, right?
ReplyDeleteI was very surprised to see that the poverty rate in South Africa is getting worse.
ReplyDeleteIt's a persuasive explanation, backed up by figures.
ReplyDeleteThank you(*´∇`*)
