A Problem I Have Solved -- Chia Miyahara
I would like to talk about a problem I’m facing and
trying to solve now. It has been approximately four months since I came to New
Zealand, but I sometimes feel homesick. I cannot predict when and where I feel
homesick, so I try to spend fulfilling time every day in order not to remember
Japan.
At first, I search
for my weaknesses and try to overcome them. For example, I really don’t like
bad weather, such as wind or rain. If the weather is bad, it makes my mood negative.
I go to school on foot every morning, but I have decided to use bus on bad
weather day to maintain a positive state of mind. Conversely, I try to spend as
much time as doing my hobbies. For
instance, I like jogging and studying. When I do these things, I can forget
anything and concentrate on them. Despite classes starting at 10a.m., I usually
arrive at school at 8a.m. and go to the gym and study English before the class.
Through these solutions, I could find how to spend fulfilled time and how to
forget my sad feelings.
This problem has
made my mental strength. When I was in Japan, I have never lived without my parents’
assistance. I think I can’t live completely by myself, but I feel myself
growing now. My life in New Zealand will continue until November, so I want to
try to a lot of things. If there are international students who miss their country,
I would like to offer some advice: you should focus on overcoming your weak
points and spend time doing your hobbies.

Nice strategies for overcoming homesickness, Chia! I am impressed with how you have 'got out there' & are living your best life. Life is too short to spend on focusing on what we lack. If we do so we'll miss the opportunities we have. David :-)
