What I wish I had known about kiwi Aina Taniguchi
There are a few things I wish I had known about Kiwi culture before I came to New Zealand.
The first is the omission of the tag question in the conversation. For example, when you say, "This is delicious, isn't it ?", but kiwi people say " This is delicious, eahy?". I had no idea what they were talking about when I first heard this, Then I questioned my host mother about it and I finally could understand. And that tag question is not clearly pronounced, so I still get confused sometimes.
Secondly, there are no bus announcements. I was very surprised and obscured when I got on the bus for the first time here because in Japan it is normal to have bus announcements. I wondered if it was inconvenient for people not to have announcements. That's why my phone is indispensable when I take on the bus.
These are the things I wish I had known before I came to New Zealand.
I respect you. I could not focus on thier pronounciation.
ReplyDeleteHow interesting they are! But you are able to adapt these!
