Volunteering - Paz

I think that volunteering can enrich peoples live in different ways. Volunteering is a very good way for help people with real and biggest problem such as, lack of basic necessities, like food, health, education or a roof.  So, volunteering, makes you see you life in a different way, you realize that your problem are not as big as you thought it and you start to live a more relax and happy life. You face yours problems with a different attitude.  And at the same time you are helping people that really need it, so is a win - win.  Also, it may increase your self - confident and get out of your confort zone. In this way, I think people that do volunteering star to appreciate more theirs live and little things or actions that happens in it.  However, I think that volunteering is not for everyone.. I would like to do a volunteering some day.. I think would like to do something that involves animals life or health care.

By watching interviews with two returned Peace Corp volunteers who are Olena and Carmen, I did realised a world of knowledge and experiences through their journey. First of all, they indeed got many experiences in how to prepare carefully prior to having an abroad volunteer such as discovering countries' cultures, and customs, and how to behave appropriately and politely in these societies or communities. Besides, they also got lots of lessons on why we do volunteer and how we share our love and compassion with those who are in need.  Actually, through their beautiful deeds and inspirations, I expect that I could volunteer in different parts of the world in the near future because by doing this, I would be able to widen my heart and my mind to others and broaden my horizons about numerous cultures in the globe. With this chance, I would like to go to some African countries where drought and famine have been widespread and have caused serious to the lives of many residents.

I think the world in 10 years time will have more AI and more professions that can work in place of humans.I expect that systems such as facial recognition will become more advanced, and people will be able to shop using facial recognition without wallets.  However, as this facial recognition system develops, there are problems of who will manage it and whether privacy will be properly protected. On the positive side, it makes it easier to prevent crime and find missing persons. Additionally, as I mentioned earlier, lives will be made more convenient. Therefore, it is impossible for me to say whether it will get better or worse.

I think that in 2043 the world is not going to be as different as it is now. For sure technology will keep changing how we live, making life easier, because we won't have to do many tasks that we normally do today. Hoewever, the way peolple choose to live their lives will be the same, thats because you will keep having the same main options: live in large technological cities, with a lot of population, noise and a big number of services for cover your nececities. Or by other hand, you can choose live in rural areas, with less overcrowding, more nature and less services in your disposal. In my opinion, there is a point where rural zone acquired enough services that you can safety live in that area without improving dead likelihood, so the desicion of live in a big city or in rural zones is determined by the lifestyle that each person leads or wants to lead, more than for a fier of dying. Taking in account what I have just said, one of the main desicions in humans life (how and whe...

By 2043, I expect that our world will have no more war and conflict between each country. As a result, peace will prevail on Earth completely. Regarding economic development, there will be more and more countries adapting to the fourth industrial and creating sustainable futures for the young generation. Moreover, I wish for a future world will have positively practical methods to reduce gas emissions in order that human being will not endure the serious effects of the so-called phenomenon "climate change" . In terms of technological development, in the year 2043, the number of countries approaching AI technology will be increased significantly. Consequently, the mutual jobs will be replaced by robots, then the human race will have a more convenient and comfortable life. Despite this development, I expect that we will not be lazy in boosting creative thinking. If this happens, our world will be gradually sluggish and worse.

I believe the world will improve more and more because of the development of technology, whereas the environment will be getting worth. I think AI will improve more and more. For example, Al will be able to express their emotion in next revolution. I think the world will be better for human, but other animals and plants will receive a bad influence from next revolution. we have to keep my mind that our action effect on the environment.

In the next twenty years, the whole society may be very different. In terms of traffic, cars may be trams or even hydrogen cars. In some cities in China, uber has begun to implement autonomous driving, but it is still relatively slow at present. In the future, everyone's car may be intelligent autonomous driving, and everyone will not need to get a driver's license. From the perspective of living, people may be able to use smart homes, home cooking and mopping things such as machines can help complete, only need to use mobile phones to control it. In terms of teaching, in fact, I don't think artificial intelligence can completely replace teachers, but some teaching work can be completed by artificial intelligence, such as correcting homework, or the application of digital technology is very good, and home class is not a problem.

In 2043 - Nao Miyahara

I expect digital technology will be developing in 2043. I think that the next development will be the increase of AI robots. So, AI robots will replace people in restaurants. And, I think our lives will be better due to this development because people won't have to do tough jobs with much power. In addition, as AI robots become more widespread, I think automation will also increase in many areas. For example, I think all supermarkets will introduce self-checkouts.

In 2043= Natsumi Iwmaoto

I guess the world will have become a more highly technic society by 2043 because I know that the world is developing rapidly. For example, frying cars would be invented in the future. I'm looking forward to seeing the advanced world like an animation. Therefore, I believe that our lives will be better thanks to these developments.

I expect AI will be produced a lot and the jobs that don't need creativity such as calculating and driving will be taken by AI in 2043. Also, the temperature will be rising and many parts of the earth will dissolve. I think feathers that allow people to fly will have been invented by 2043 because airplanes have already made a lot. Finally, I believe human life is partly getting better because of the development of technology. Other parts of the world will be worse than now like the climate. So, it is important to continue good things and review bad things.

2043 might seem like a distance future, but I think is just around the corner.. . So by 2043 I thinks that automation will have changed the world in many forms. For example, probably IA will be perfectly integrated in ours daily lives. Maybe l anguage barriers for jobs, will be virtually eliminated with AI translation devices. Also, automation will have display a lot of worker from their jobs. Specially, people who do routine jobs. Because this jobs could be easy to codified and executed by machines. I think that the next developments will be the perfection of AI and virtual reality.  Whether our lives will be better or worse depends on how we adapts to the challenges and opportunities these advancements bring.

I think in 2043, more job will be being taking over by automation. Especially, jobs which are repetition will be taken by digital technology. Also, the accuracy, strength and speed of AI are higher than human, so, almost task we are doing will have done by robots. Because of the developments, automation will be more advanced and efficiency will improve. Therefore our life should be better.

In my personal prediction in 2024 AI obtain body and start working as human. They work at any places,  any time, and any work environment. They are superior to human so, they usurp someone's position. It's a bit terrible prediction but, it's also fantastic future.

In 2043 - Ren Funayama

I expect that the world will be more automatic than now, and next development in the digital revolution and in automation will be that robots do all our jobs in restaurants. For example, some restaurants in Japan use robots to serve dishes and to hear our orders. I think they will be able to check out near the future. Because of these developments, our lives might be worse because we might not be able to make money. If we loss our jobs, we cannot live in the world. We should think about that seriously.

  - I expect the world will be highly advanced in 2043 comparing this 21 century. I expect the next new developments in the future will be of course, auto pilot electric cars and high technology chip that you put into your head which you can connect to the internet straightly by preference of your brain. I suppose that the future lives will be better because of these developments, the newest technology can bring convenience and helpful to make our lives easier and faster.

I see more and more automation and artificial functions will develop and the world will become more convenient! However, people cannot be controlled by machines, we must develop our own thinking and imagination!!

As we learned in class, more jobs will be lost to AI by 2043. AI's development will cause more people to lose their jobs, which could lead to job shortage problems. However, I believe that our lives will be enriched, and although the number of jobs may decrease due to the development of automation, we will be able to spend more time on other things.

I expect people all over the world will be beginning to live totally underground in 2043 to prevent impacts from Global Warming. In the future, global warming will become a more serious problem than now, so we need to think about how to deal with this problem. Already, some people are beginning to consider visiting and living on other planets, but it is too costly. Therefore, I believe that the most realistic solution to global warming is for people around the world to start living completely underground.  This will make our lives much more comfortable than now because we can live cooler than on the ground, and thanks to the absence of oceans, we can get stable temperatures.

I believe that in 2043 technology will be more advanced than it is today. In particular, I think there will be significant development in the field of A.I. Many professions will be done by A.I. I think these developments will improve our lives. I think we can live with A.I., although some people may be overly concerned.

Volunteering Abroad

As we all know, volunteering in a foreign country is very challenging, we have to face the unfamiliar environment, sometimes we may not speak the language, sometimes volunteers need to go to dangerous places, such as war places to work. But I still decide that it is a great thing to volunteer abroad, we can gain experience, broaden our horizon, and give full play to our skills to contribute to the society. We may not realize how wonderful our own lives are without experiencing the difficulties of others.

Volunteering abroad - Ren Funayama

Volunteering abroad could enrich their lives because they could know and contribute to change the world. I want to volunteer abroad because It will be good experience for me and I want to speak English positively. I have not decided where I will go to volunteer, but I am interested in Africa to teach something. I also want to teach Japanese to foreign students who are interested in Japan.

Volunteering Abroad -- Asaka Matsuda

I think volunteering abroad make them growth and confident. As they said, it is important to now yourself before taking part in volunteering. I understood self awareness is essential to decide goals of volunteering. By knowing yourself, we can grow mentally because it help us clarify what we need to do. In addition, you must understand and adapt other country's culture when you volunteer abroad. Lifestyles and ways of thinking can be different. Also, we should learn other languages. It may be challenges, but in the process of overcoming it, we will know how to deal with problems well. Through helping various people, we will realize how important to interact with others.  At the moment, I am not thinking about volunteering abroad, but if I do, I want to communicate with others in volunteer because I like talking.

Would You Volunteer Abroad?

Image
I think the volunteer makes our minds enrich because we can get a confidence to help someone. In my case, I have volunteered in NZ for many times. Firstly, it was questionable whether I can help someone by myself. However, my friends always supported me and I could play my role. this experience connected my confidence that I can help someone!  I am interested in volunteering abroad because I like talking with various people. After I came to NZ, I have meet people who I have never meet in my life. Such as people make my life more enjoyable and knowledgeable. Therefore, if I get an opportunity, I must do it!

I believe that volunteering abroad will enhance participants' ability to take action, give them a sense of satisfaction in helping others, and foster flexibility in accepting opinions and cultures other than their own. I think volunteering abroad is a very hard task because living overseas has a lot of concerns such as food, language, religion, and so on. So, if you join volunteering abroad and, but not proactive, you won't learn anything. However, if you try to talk with local people and learn the culture actively, you will definitely enhance these two abilities and learn the importance of volunteering. Next, I would like to volunteer abroad someday. This is because I'm a study-abroad student, staying in New Zealand, and my host family and the people in town were kind to me, so I wanna help people overseas too. Finally, if I volunteer abroad, I'd like to establish the devices that make water clean.

Through their volunteer work abroad, they have learned the importance of connecting with others and other cultural differences.Living alone in a country that is completely different from your own culture can be very difficult, but I think that they were able to overcome these difficulties by interacting and cooperating with the people of that country. I am interested in volunteering abroad in the future. However, my image of volunteering abroad is a tough one so if I'm really going to volunteer, I need to find a volunteer that fits my abilities and personality. I have not yet decided which country I would like to volunteer in, but I am interested in volunteering to teach Japanese to children overseas because I know how fun it is to learn a new language!

Volunteering abroad - Nao Miyahara

I think volunteering abroad taught them how wonderful it is to work for others. And because they were extraordinarily motivated, they created an atmosphere that encouraged others to do their best, too.  To be honest, I wouldn't volunteer abroad because I don't have the confidence to overcome some problems such as culture shock. I'm not good at adjusting to new environments, so I think I'm not suitable for living outside of my own country.

I think both Olena& Carmen have gotten special experiences through the volunteering. Of course, there were not only positive effects but also difficulties. However, they didn't give up but struggled to improve the situation. Then, it led to their strength.      I had been just thinking about volunteering abroad before we covered this theme. I would like to try it after this SA program, but I need to earn money in Japan. I am in a dilemma.

Personally, I think that through their volunteer work abroad, they have learned about their own strengths and weaknesses, discovered what they really would like to do, and enriched their lives. And then, I believe they've improved the quality of life for the locals and increased their options for the future. I really would like to join volunteer work abroad; especially in developing countries because I was inspired by a story I heard in high school about a volunteer who went to a developing country. I would love to volunteer there in education!

Volunteering Abroad--Ryota Iwami

Volunteering abroad could give them self-growth. In addition, they have some opportunities to impact others. They impacted local people by teaching, developing good relationships, and so on. In the future, I want to try volunteering abroad because it will enrich my life. If I can possible, I want to volunteer in South Africa. Especially, I want to help international development.

Volunteering Abroad--Tomoe Araki

Image
Their volunteer work has allowed them to improve their problem-solving skills. I believe that their abilities played a major role for the local people. If I could volunteer abroad in the future, I would like to go to Africa. Because Africa is a developing country and the infrastructure is not well developed, I thought we could provide them with the infrastructure systems of our country and so on. This kind of activity can contribute to better development and reduce disparities in the world.

Pandemics of the Past--ilryeon Yun

Image
In my personal opinion, Cholera is the most scary pandemic because if you get it, you'll die in a couple of days. The most surprising thing was the thing with the Spanish flu is that it also causes blood to come out of your nose and ears.  I think it is important to say thank you before you regret it and to meet as many people as you can while you can! I can't think positive thinking learned from Corona.

Pandemics of the Past - Ren Funayama

I was surprised that the Spanish flu was not originated in Spain. I think it is interesting to decide the name of illness because of war. I think the Spanish flu is the most terrifying because the number of people who were killed by the Spanish flu was so many. People around the world may still catch a flu now, so I am afraid of being terribly sick because of flu. We can learn that vaccine is extremely important from these disease. Thanks to vaccine, we can prevent from getting serious disease. I think we do not learn from covid-19 so much because we continued to ereduce the time to run the restaurant, even if it has no meaning.

Pandemics of the Past - Chia Miyahara

Image
I was surprised at the origin of the name of "Spanish flu". Spain didn't join the World War 1, and there was no reason to hide it. Conversaly, in the US, the government had to collect soldiers and they concealed an epidemic from the public. It was quite interesting. I really scare about cholera. Especially, It was frightening to hear that the water was running out of our body. From these epidemics, I felt the need to create vaccines to combat the serious disease. Through Covid 19, I was able to see the potential of online classes. At first I was worried about whether I would be able to concentrate on learning in my own environment, but I thought it was a good thing to be able to take classes in an environment that suited me anytime, anywhere.

Pandemics of the Past: A Reflection Aina Taniguchi

Image
From the pandemics of bubonic plague, cholera, and Spanish flu, I learned the importance of proper knowledge and sanitary and the fear of these epidemics because without proper knowledge, it is impossible to take appropriate treatments and may even lead to the spread of infection. I was surprised that so many people died in all these pandemics, but especially surprised that cholera lasted for 200 years and even with modern technology we still haven't figured out where the Spanish flu originated. In my opinion, Spanish flu is the most horrible infection to face. The reason I think so is because there are the amount of many more symptoms than other plagues, and once you're infected, you only have a short time before you die.  From these pandemics, we can learn the importance of identifying the cause of an infectious disease and responding quickly when it spreads. I think this would greatly reduce the number of deaths. Finally, I think the positive change that have res...

A Reflection of Pandemics of the Past - Chien Nguyen

It is obvious that we have learned a world of knowledge in relation to the three most serious plagues that happened during human history such as the bubonic plague, the cholera epidemic, and the Spanish flu epidemic. From my perspective, the records of the death toll and the symptoms of these plagues were the two most impressive things to me. Perhaps, patients during this time had endured chronic pain and suffering due to the causes of these bacteria. Besides, there was a feeling of boredom and isolation covering their mind, then probably they wished they could die as soon as possible without facing this challenge anymore. Indeed, I am profoundly compassionate with them.  Therefore, these experiences about the enormous effects of these epidemics have become valuable lessons to prepare for future pandemics. The experience of the USA about the protection of the Spanish flu was a good example of that. So, we would never be subjective about any tiny bacteria or virus or about any sympt...

Pandemic of the Past Natsumi Iwamoto

Image
Through learning about these three serious pandemics, what I was surprised at most was that the victims of the Spanish flu were more than people who were killed by the WWⅠ. Especially, In the U.S., the difference was as many as 6 times. To be honest, I couldn't believe that and I still can't now.       In my personal opinion, the bubonic plague was the most terrifying to face. That is because the symptoms were very frightening. For example, changing to black skin color, and patients would die within a few days. I would not be able to bear such these situations.      To prevent any pandemics, we need to be careful about sanitation and hygiene. Bacteria are likely to breed in filthy areas.      Even though people have suffered from plagues, they could find new things. For example, we could get a chance to review the method of education while we were in the covid 19 pandemic. we made up a system that students can take c...

pandemic of the past

I think Spanish flu is the most serious disease in all history because they have more death toll than victims of World War 1. Therefore, people suffered from not only disease but also starvation because of the war at that time.   One of my surprise points is Spanish flu didn't start in Spain. It is really strange for me. In addition, I realized that world corporation is essential to share information about a plague and prevent people from serious diseases.   After COVID-19 came to us, people were more focused on cleaning everywhere. I think this is a good conscious for a pandemic. In my case, I haven't caught a cold since then because I always try to wash my hands and put on a mask. Therefore, COVID-19 causes disadvantages and advantages.

Pandemic of the Past; A Reflection Mai Kanda

Image
I learned that the scale of all pandemics including the bubonic plague, the cholera epidemic, and the Spanish flu is more enormous than I have ever thought. I was surprised by the Spanish flu the most because I heard that about 50 million people died from the Spanish flu in 1918. It is an incredible number and I was very sad to hear this fact. Then, I think that the bubonic plague is the most terrifying to face. This is because there are a lot of vaccines for the Spanish flu and cholera around the world, but not vaccines for the bubonic plague. It is terrible. However, I think there are important things from these pandemics to prepare for future pandemics. I think the important thing is being aware of personal hygiene, for example, washing your hands and not touching anything unsanitary. Finally, I think that we have learned a lot from COVID-19. This is because I heard the news that compared with the previous year, the number of patients with the Spanish flu last year was lower si...

Pandemic of the past

Image
The factor that surprised me about the different pandemics is how quickly the virus can spread around the world and how many deaths left.   I think Spanish flu epidemic was the most terrifying to face because occurred in the middle of world war I. Also, cause countries hid their deaths to didn’t show weakness to their enemies. Maybe, if the deaths had not been hidden, the existence of the virus would have been known earlier and perhaps many deaths would been prevented.  In my opinion each epidemic has something to teach us and show how we can be prepared to face a future pandemic. For example, new studies of how the human body works can be useful for other future pandemics. However, each pandemic could have different effect for the world, so nothing can ensure that we are prepared and have all the knowledge for a new pandemic, maybe we will know what actions or protocols we could take but nothing unsure us that we will be 100% prepare for another epidemic. I think that a posit...

Pandemics of the Past--Tomoe Araki

I was amazed at how quickly these pandemics spread. I found the cholera outbreak to be the most frightening. I found the cholera outbreak to be the most frightening because it can be spread through the water we use daily. I learned that it is important to raise public health standards around the world to prevent future pandemics. I realized from COVID-19 that early detection and early treatment are effective. This also makes me believe that if a pandemic were to occur, we would be able to solve it quickly.

Pandemics of the past: an economical reflection about the Black Death.

When we talk about economy, one of the main topics that comes about is the inequality phenomenon. After watching videos of different plagues in class, i asked miself: What is the economical impact of this plagues on world economy?. My initial thoughts were that, without a doubt, large plagues have a negative economic effect in all economic aspect. But after a little of research, i realize that i was wrong in my thoughts: The Black Death reduced the income inequality in Europe in a large way. Here the explanation: In the 14th century, Europe has a great income inequality, the social-economic structure of the continent was mainly an uneven relationship between landlords and their workers. By those days (before the Black Death outbreak) the richest 10% of the population was owner of the 70% of total wealth. What happened is that after the Black Death ended, the population of Europe decreased considerably beacause of the deaths, affecting all social classes, mainly the poorest. The sh...

Pandemics of the Past: A Reflection Fumiya Nakagawa

From this week I learned a lot of tragedy of pandemic which occurred within few hundred years. Every pandemic contain million of death toll and they spread exponentially. These facts were the most impressing points for me, because it is as or more heinous than the COVID 19 that are currently prevalent, and it dulls the senses to think that today is still better. On the other hand, those serious pandemics might be the good lesson for us. They taught us major factors of infectious disease spreading. We can take action not to follow same rut. COVID 19 was  an unparalleled and severe infection. Countless people have died because of it. Even in this pandemic, it has silver lining. Public health awareness has increased dramatically, and as a result, the flu epidemic is under control.

Pandemics of the Past: A Reflection

In last class I learned a pandemic called The Black Death. It was one of the most serious pandemic in the world. The Black Death was spread by rodents and insects. The three main reasons of spread of the bubonic plague were international trade, rising urban population and lack of medical knowledge. Today we have already cared about sanitation, for example, we always take a shower and drink boiled water. However, this pandemic has not gone away, and we must not let down our guard.  Sometimes I always feel that human beings are too fragile, and many times a small disease may take people's lives. It's like I had a B infection the week before last, and I still haven't recovered. The fever stayed high for the first week, reaching 40 degrees the first and second days. It also gave me a whole host of problems like vomiting, runny nose and coughing. Just one flu can do so much damage and I take the medicines at the same time, if I get more strong virus. Overall we need to value ou...

I was surprised that these pandemics afflicted more people and had a greater impact on the world than I had imagined. I was also surprised that each pandemic lasted quite a long time. The reason for my surprise was undoubtedly the scale. I think what we can learn from these pandemics to prepare for future pandemics is to develop medical care and sanitation. I also believe that we have learned from the recent COVID-19 a new way of working and using our time. I believe that these benefits will have a more positive impact on our future.

Pandemics of the Past: A Reflection

Hi class, think about what you have learned so far this week about the bubonic plague, the cholera epidemic, and the Spanish flu epidemic. What about these pandemics has surprised you the most? Which do you think would have been the most terrifying to face, and why? Are there any lessons we can learn from these pandemics when it comes to ensuring we are prepared for future pandemics? Finally, the clips we watched reported that the pandemics actually paved the way for various positive social changes. Can you think of any positive changes that have resulted from the Covid 19 pandemic? Also, don't forget to illustrate your post with an image.
